My husband, my friend and I were looking forward to a great experience since we've all had very good luck in the past with Anchorage area B&Bs. Not so with the Alaska Chalet. I had been in email contact with the hostess, Brigitte. Her instruction upon arriving at the B&B was to ring the bell at our unit's private entrance just to notify her of our arrival. I rang the bell and walked into our unit to get settled after a nine hour drive from Fairbanks. After the three of us got inside the door we heard footsteps descending stairs immediately behind the door. A woman appeared and her first greeting was "Oh, you just walked in..." And she proceeded to scold us as if we were children (we're all in our 40s) about just walking into her private residence. After a couple minutes of this my husband asked her " Should we just leave?" She backed off a bit but never really dropped the misunderstanding. As she was showing us the unit it became quite apparent this wasn't a "private" unit after all since she had direct access from her stairway and there was a flimsy sliding partition separating the other unit. She also bad-mouthed the previous guest blaming her for breaking the tv. The TV wasn't broken it was obvious Brigitte just didn't know how to operate it. After the brief tour she asked what time we would like our continental breakfast the next morning. We gave her a time and she tells us she has to cook for the other guests at that time. We just told her to put it out when she can. At one point my friend went to put a sandwich she had purchased on the drive down in the fridge in our unit's kitchen area. Brigitte immediately lambasted her for going into "her private" fridge. The next morning she walked through as we were eating breakfast and she began to ask us about using her wifi insinuating we somehow broke it. As I had explained to her upon checkin we had no need for her wifi since Anchorage has LTE available. The accommodations were outdated but clean. We just never felt comfortable in the place after the horrible reception we received. Unfortunately I had prepaid and we couldn't cancel without having to pay in full so we suffered through. My recommendation is to stay at one of the other great B&Bs in the Anchorage area.
